This animation, at first glance, is very slow-paced, just like "To the Immortal You". And the beginning of the story is that the hero's story has already ended, which is different from what most people expect from a hero adventure story. In addition to some daily life and continuous flashbacks, if you are a fan of hot-blooded anime, then this drama is probably torture for you. I also had this feeling at the beginning, after all, I just finished watching the ending of "Attack on Titan" and I hadn't recovered yet, but then I was presented with such a slow-paced story. If it weren't for someone saying that the drama gets better as you watch further, I would have left a long time ago.
I have currently watched up to episode twelve, and except for the chapter where Aula confronts the guillotine, which made me somewhat excited, most of the time I find this drama very ordinary. There is an interesting setting in the drama. The demons never suppress their own magic power. Magic power is an important manifestation of their status and strength, just like in human society, you can tell at a glance who has wealth and status. So the stronger the demon, the easier they die from underestimating their opponents, because Frieren and her master suppress their own magic power and use it as bait to lure and kill demons. They are confident, but they also die because of their confidence. Of course, constantly suppressing one's own magic power is not glorious for a mage, just like how demons use human language to deceive humans to achieve their goals, it is just a means to an end.
In the drama, a human's life is only a short moment in front of an elf. I don't have much experience in thinking about life and death right now. If I were a middle-aged person in my fifties, I might feel that this drama brings me more empathy and contemplation. In the time of reviewing the first half of my life, I might also regret wasting time like Frieren and missing out on many beautiful things. But my life experience is not enough to make me feel enough regret. There is still a large blank space in front of me waiting to be filled. Maybe when I really get to that point, I will like this work even more.
By the way, Feren is super cute. Hurry up and hold hands with the silly boy Shuutarou. I'm looking forward to sweet love in the future 🤣.
