College Entrance Examination

These two days happen to be the days of the national college entrance examination in China. I have seen various blessings being sent to the candidates all over the internet, and I would like to share my thoughts as well.

After the College Entrance Examination#

Today is the second day of the college entrance examination, and also the last day, at least for some people. After the college entrance examination, you may have many things you want to do, such as going to an internet cafe to play games, having a meal with classmates, confessing to a girl you like, or traveling, etc. You can do all these things now. However, once the desires that have been suppressed for three years are released, it is easy for people to indulge themselves. Just like every year, I can see high school students who have just finished the college entrance examination playing games overnight in internet cafes and suddenly dying after a few hours. If we say that the college entrance examination can be divided into two steps, then finishing the examination is just completing the first step. There are still many things waiting for you to do afterwards. It's okay to relax, but please do not indulge yourself excessively.

College Major Choices#

The college entrance examination is already a thing of the past for me, even if it was only a few years ago. Some things have changed compared to the past, especially when it comes to choosing a college major. Whenever relatives' children ask me how to choose a college major, I don't know how to answer because I don't know if the child has their own interests or ideal direction. I may also need to understand some important points about filling out college major choices in the local area and what new regulations have been added. Most parents are not aware of these contents, or they are more concerned about scores and neglect the importance of choosing a college major. Many students also think this way: as long as my scores are high, I can choose any school or major. The reality is like this, but I have also encountered some classmates from high school who regretted their choices because they were deceived by the names of the schools or majors. At that time, they often came to me to complain. Since your scores are already good enough, why not spend more effort on choosing a college major? Why waste the three years of effort in high school?

For students who don't have extremely high scores, they need to weigh the pros and cons more. We had a saying back then: "reach, secure, and guarantee." "Reach" means that when the scores are close, you can strive for your desired school. "Secure" means referring to the previous years' enrollment situation to make a choice. It may be difficult to reach your desired school, but at least it won't be too bad. "Guarantee" means having a safety net. The school may be average, but your scores guarantee that you can get admitted.

As for the issue of repeating a year, it depends on your own situation and your family's opinion. This process itself is also extremely difficult to endure.

A New Starting Point#

After the college entrance examination, college life is just around the corner. The most common phrase we heard during the three years of high school was: "You will be relaxed once you go to college." Is it really the case? Actually, it is not. You will still be busy in college. Of course, how busy you are depends on how much you arrange for yourself. Unlike high school, there are many choices in front of you in college, whether it is for studying or living. Every choice you make will directly affect your learning and life. In college, you don't have to stick to learning knowledge from textbooks only. You can go to the library to search for the information you need, and you will also have the time for it. You don't have to face the suffocating tactic of solving endless problems. Those days have become a thing of the past. Your weekends are free, and you can do whatever you want. More freedom also means more responsibility. You have to be responsible for yourself. You no longer have teachers constantly monitoring your studies, and you are far away from home, so the help from your parents will also be reduced. I don't want to say what kind of life a college student should have. I just feel that if you only want to smoothly pass your college years, then you just need to attend classes well and take exams seriously. If you have bigger dreams, then the college entrance examination is definitely not the end, but a new starting point in your life.

In fact, everyone understands the truth, it's just a matter of taking action.
