In simple terms, there are three main reasons: one is because blogs are pure, another is because blogs are suitable for publishing long articles, and the last one is because sometimes I just want to write something and share it with others.
- Why not build my own blog?
I have had previous experiences with blogs, and I used to be very enthusiastic about experimenting with static blog platforms like Hugo and Hexo. Now, I just want to find a place where I can occasionally write blogs, preferably without having to build it myself and with minimal maintenance required. I have moved past the phase of being obsessed with tinkering with blogs.
- Why not choose Telegram?
I am actually a heavy user of Telegram myself. I use it to read news, find resources, use practical tools, and chat with friends. I also have my own channel where I occasionally share my thoughts. However, Telegram is not suitable for publishing long articles. Although Telegram allows users to publish several thousand characters, compared to the microblog format of Twitter, when the article becomes longer, the message bubbles on mobile devices become narrow and long, which greatly affects the reading experience.
Telegraph, as a blogging platform for Telegram, is a good extension tool, but the articles themselves are not interconnected. If I share Article A on Telegraph in my channel, others would not know that Article B exists unless I mention it. On the other hand, a blog platform does not have this flaw. Instead of seeing scattered blogs, you see a collection of articles arranged in a certain way. Therefore, Telegram and Telegraph are not suitable as the main blogging platforms.
- Why not choose Notion or Obsidian?
Notion is a good platform for note-taking and has spawned many blog platforms built on Notion. However, every time I face Notion, I feel pressured. I don't know if others feel the same way, but I personally feel an invisible pressure. "Is it appropriate for me to write such a small amount on such a large page?"
As for Obsidian, I consider it purely as a local markdown writing software and a tool for collecting plain text articles. Besides, if I have the energy to tinker with third-party note-sharing solutions, wouldn't it be better for me to manually set up a Hugo or Hexo blog myself?
In conclusion, setting up a blog platform is currently my best choice.
